While it is true that many things the couple share in their testimony never have happened to me, it is equally true that I need Him every day. Mac and Mary Owen openly share their lives over the last 40 years: The good, the bad and the ugly. The chapters switch between Mac sharing and then Mary telling about life from her perspective.

Unfortunately, he also got hooked on very serious drugs. Mary decided to stop parting her days and throw her energies into raising her daughters. The interesting part is how God not just saved them, but how He changed them.

How He worked to bring all their children together again. For a long time, this couple did Bible studies and opened their home to help others learn to overcome their addictions. I am so thankful to Fred at The Book Club Network for sharing how this book touched him and his encouragement to read it. In the process, learn about a ministry, Celebrate Recovery , which is part of the testimony of the Owen family.

Travis Thrasher writes this story that the Owens swore no one would ever know about as their lives for so long were all about secrets. Now, as they have grown in their walk with the Lord, they open up and allow Travis to put their story to print in order to help others. The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility. Other reviews can be read at http: Also follow me on Twitter lcjohnson, FaceBook at https: It was written from the point of view of both Mac and Mary, intertwined with each other since high school. Mac and Mary fought back from unexpected pregnancy to unexpected drug addition to a mostly unexpected plan from God that had been in the works long before they even met.

Mac, Mary and Travis held nothing back. The struggles are real, their faith is real and the people they all touched is amazing! This is a true life story about living!

Thanks Fred St. Laurent for all the hard work you put in to the group. Thanks to the publishers and sponsors and to David Cook our sponsor. I read this book in 2 days This book is the true life account of Mac and Mary Owens who helped promote the program "Celebrate Recovery". This book shows their life from when they met when they were teenagers.

It is really amazing the life they went through and how God was helped them all the way. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone! It is very inpsiring and yet entertaining at the same time. This is a very emotional book… in the context that you are allowed to walk through the valleys and peaks with Mac and Mary Owen as they share their life story.

Thrasher was able to relay their life into a truly riveting story and made you feel like you were right there with them. May 28, Another blink, and Callie is all grown up and starting a whole new chapter in her life. I think back to our little baby, the one who talked us into getting so many pets throughout the years—rabbits, pygmy goats, a pot-bellied pig, a horse named Dixie, cats and hedgehogs and countless dogs.

Her favorite was a blue healer named Sassy who was part of our lives for fourteen years. Callie has always been a nurturer. I think of the day Mac baptized her at a worship service. Seeing her born as a baby and then born again in Christ was something we cherished with each of the children. And again, nobody can know the hope and adventures that will arrive in Solomon, Silar, Sayla-Jewell and Summit.

That devotional today brought to mind the following thoughts as I watched Mac receive his 26 year sobriety chip last night at Celebrate Recovery. I was asked this just yesterday by a hurting woman: In other words, I trust my spouse through God working in my spouse. He has a good track record.

Doctors said during family week at rehab, where there were 20 guys sitting around in a circle, that statistics prove 1 out of 20 would make it. When Mac first got out of rehab though I was scared to trust him. I decided to trust God through His working on Mac and me to become the people He created us to be. God has great plans for you. Wait on His timing. He is strong when you are weak. Let Him show you what He can do. He will take you farther than you can ever even dream up. In , I had been praying seven years for Mac. I tried everything to change him. Never imagining in my wildest dreams that God had a better dream for us.

iTunes is the world's easiest way to organize and add to your digital media collection.

You will both meet your son. You will both become a part of a worldwide CR Forever Family. Your quiver will be full with 10 grandchildren. Never let go of the hope you have in Jesus Christ! He has a dream that is bigger than anything you can ever imagine. Trust Him. Obey Him. Follow Him. Our son, Heath, told us he was invited to do a comedy act at Northrock Church for a night of loving on the homeless.

For the meal, Mary sat next to a woman who was on life support less than a month ago from a motorcycle accident. She is a recovering addict and said her life is changed forever as God has given her another chance in this life. Her eyes were filled with tears of gratitude being able to be at the church. I sat next to a man who had just been released from prison the month before and was struggling to not go back to his heroin addiction.

I would like to be around people like you all. When I think about urgent I think about words like: I need to get this done right now! Vital on the other hand has a completely different meaning even though we use these two words almost interchangeably sometimes. When I think of vital words that come to mind are: Webster says things like: Performing an essential function in the living body; Manifesting or characteristic of life; life giving love and lastly blood!

I was reminded of the difference between Vital and Urgent once when I was leaving our home after starting my day off in the normal way, walking three miles on the treadmill and having a light breakfast. I left our home at 7: As I walked out the front door things went from urgent to vital in a fraction of a second. I leave my shoes on the front porch so I walked out in my socks and immediately felt as though a wasp stung me on my foot.

I turned to kill the culprit and saw a 2-foot long copperhead snake coiling up to strike again. All my urgent plans for Monday faded into the vital plan of staying alive. As I lay there on the hospital bed I had time to reflect on the things in my life that are truly vital.

Things like my job, ball games, dentist appointments and things such as these although urgent are not vital to my eternal existence. What is vital is this: And the only thing that will last and I will take to Heaven with me is my relationship with God and my relationships with Forever Family. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. Mac and I are traveling this weekend with our eldest granddaughter, Caroline.

There was a time in our lives when I would have thought this would have been impossible. You see, Caroline is the eldest daughter of Heath, the son we gave up when we were teenagers. I used to carry his photo around and think the following thoughts shared in this blog. I knew it would take a miracle for Heath to come back into our lives. What am I supposed to do with this tiny portrait? It fits in my hands. I hold it and stare and wear out the edges.

Never Let Go | The Journey Is Everything

I know mistakes have covered it all up in some kind of a sad blanket. I want to pull it back and reveal my smile and my soul. I want you to know me. I want to see your fortunes and your failures. I want to be there when you rejoice and when you reminisce. I want to be there. I hold this picture and dream. I hold this picture and imagine a family that belongs to us. I see this one snapshot growing into so much more. So far away but so close. I feel I already know you. But I feel like it will be a miracle just to see you.

Just to smile at you. Just to hug you. God knows. He knows best and all I know is to pray. To continue to pray. To pray and keep praying and to hope and to dream that one day—one day, you will be with us. One day you will walk down our driveway and smile. They could have let go. But both of these women stood by their men. They believed in them. They continued to hope and trust that God could make things better.

Even though his habits were unhealthy and ungodly. Kay and Mary would soon become dear, lifelong friends. They were alone and isolated and seemingly abandoned. Their prayers would at first cause Phil and Mac to suffer. Yet soon their prayers would be used to allow their husbands to serve. To give back. Romans 8: Prayed over and over and over again. Sometimes in the dark. Sometimes in the face of denials.

Often in fear and loneliness. A plan to use their prayers. A plan to unite these families. A plan to use them for good things ahead. And if the doors were to be opened would you leave or would you stay? The comfort of your misery you cherish dearly, you cherish dearly. Love strong, you and me.

Will you return to the garden where we were first made whole? Will you turn to the one who can liberate your soul? Run wild, live free. Love strong. To every soul locked in a cage In the prison of your past mistakes. Yeah, you can make your great escape. February 22, A new life begins. My hope and prayer is that you are running wild, too. February 9, A friend on Facebook commented on this unexpected medical adventure by sharing that a nurse had once told her the following when she was healing from surgery with stitches: I say amen to that!

January 23, 3: Last week, God heard those words coming from my lips. Things suddenly got quite a bit rocky. I blinked and bam, I suddenly heard doctors and nurses talking over me. Doctors confer with one another. Exploratory surgery? The enemy was strong and he was active. God, are you there? I knew He heard me and I knew He watched and listened. So I continued my prayers.

My petitions. Why did this happen to me? Yes, why me? Yes, I wanted to know. And in the silent pit of heavy despair, I heard His response very clearly. Your work on this earth is not done.
